“Tropicoqueta”: Karol G “duels” with Anahí for Ricky Martin’s sake

All the drama and laughter in the most cult promo of the year

Karol G as the leading lady of a… telenovela! Together with Anahí, they fight over Ricky Martin's eyes in the promo for "Tropicoqueta"
The Colombian star's fifth album is released on June 20th.

Karol G raises the bar of imagination and nostalgia ahead of the release of her new album, “Tropicoqueta,” with an epic promo clip that pays homage to Latin American soap operas of the ’90s. The famous singer joins forces with five major stars of the genre – Anahí, Itatí Cantoral, Gaby Spanic, Ninel Conde and Azela Robinson – in a nearly two-minute video full of humor and intensity.

In the clip, Karol G and Anahí are vying for the same man – none other than the iconic '90s Ricky Martin. Things quickly escalate, with the two leads clashing in a scene reminiscent of a classic telenovela. Itatí Cantoral appears with Soraya Montenegro's unforgettable "Maldita lisiada!" from "Maria la del Barrio" to stop the fight, while Ninel Conde puts the drama in its place, saying "Mamacita, still the same? How many years have passed, get over it!"

""Tropicoqueta": Karol G brings summer earlier

Gaby Spanic and Azela Robinson complete the scene, arriving in a red van while listening to one of the new songs from the album – with lyrics that glorify female self-confidence: “The woman is iconic / has dreams / has goals.”

On Instagram, Karol G shared photos from the shoot, revealing that the first person she called was Anahí and the rest was… magical. "There's nothing like making a dream come true! What energy, what laughter, the most fun shoot of my life! Thank you, queens, for saying yes – it's an honor to be in the same room with you!"

"Tropicoqueta" is released on Friday, June 20, and promises to be an album full of memories and personal moments. As Karol G herself states, she returns to her roots, to the melodies she loved as a child and to the sounds that gave her the love for music.
