Louane returns to the big stage, this time representing France at Eurovision 2025 with a soulful song. “Maman” is dedicated to her mother, who she lost at the age of 17, and has already captivated audiences and forecasters, placing the entry in third place in the rankings before the final.
The 28-year-old singer will perform her song in the Second Semi-Final on May 15 in Basel, Switzerland. As a member of the Big Five, France has already secured a place in the grand final, where Louane will try to bring back the victory.
A performance that touched 80.000 spectators
The first live performance of “Maman” was held with great pomp and circumstance during the half-time of the France-Scotland Six Nations rugby match at the Stade de France. Louane appeared on a floating platform above the pitch, singing in front of an enthusiastic audience of 80.000 spectators — a move that gave a theatrical touch to such a personal piece.
From The Voice to the big stage of Europe
Louane became more widely known through her participation in The Voice France in 2013. In 2015, with her first album 12 room, conquered the charts, while in the same year she was awarded a César Award for her performance in the film The Aries FamilyWith music and acting to her credit, Louane is today considered one of the most distinctive presences of the new generation of artists in France.
“Maman”: A letter to mom
Written and composed by herself in collaboration with Tristan Salvati, “Maman” is a moving musical monologue. Louane shares her changes, maturity, and the course of her life, through words full of gratitude and tenderness: “From you, I kept everything, the things that make me who I am.”
The song's most touching moment comes at the end, where the voice of her five-year-old daughter, Esmée, is heard — a sweet reminder that she has now taken on the role of mother: "Now they call me mom."
France reclaims top spot
Following the successful run of Slimane’s “Mon Amour” in 2024, France continues with another emotionally charged ballad. Although the forecasts place it in third place, the public already seems to embrace Louane and her personal message. All that remains is to see if “Maman” will also touch the hearts of Europe.
