The pop star shares backstage moments and photos from the accident that caused an impressive dance performance
Η Katy Perry has built her career on stage extravaganza, energy and twists. But even the brightest moments of a show can hide small surprises — and she doesn’t hesitate to show them. In a recent Instagram post, the pop star shared with her 212 million followers photos that reveal the price of an impressive stage performance: two knees covered in scrapes and bruises.
The scene unfolded at one of the concerts of the current Lifetime Tour, when Perry wanted to do the famous “knee slide” that gets the crowd going. This time, however, the ending wasn’t what she expected. As she explained in a message to her friend Lauren Glucksman — which she shared with a screenshot — the move that usually elicits excited “aaaahs” from the audience, this time it elicited a spontaneous “ahhh” of pain. Glucksman, without missing an opportunity for humor, replied that “that’s what it’s like to be 40.”
In the photo she took immediately after the incident, Perry is seen lounging in a bathtub, showing off the “battle scars” on her knees. Along with it, she posted a carousel of tour moments: bike rides between soundchecks, tender hugs with her daughter, Daisy Dove, and shots from the stage where she eats popcorn while singing, proving that her sense of humor is not lacking in performance either.
Η Lifetime Tour It's not just another concert series. It's Perry's first major North American tour since 2018, and it's designed like a mobile theme park, full of color, costumes, dancers, and musical surprises. The singer describes it as a journey through all the seasons and songs of her career, hence the title "Lifetimes Tour" — a celebration of her entire musical journey.
After kicking off in April, the tour has traveled through the US, Canada and Mexico, filling stadiums and arenas. In September, she will travel to Latin America with concerts in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, while the rest will take her to Europe and Asia, with the finale scheduled for December 7. Despite the demanding schedule, Perry does not hesitate to give a show that "doesn't have a bad seat" every time — as she says — since she makes sure to approach the audience from every corner of the stage.
The preparation for each live show is as intense as the performance itself: rehearsals, costume changes, Disneyland-like sets, and dance moves that require impeccable physical fitness. The unfortunate slide was just one moment among hundreds, but it showed Perry's spirit: even when something doesn't go as planned, she carries on with a smile and self-mockery.
Posting photos of her scraped knees wasn't a move to elicit pity, but a way to connect with her audience by showing that, behind the lights and the impressive costumes, there is a person who lives both the good and the "traumatic" aspects of the job. And perhaps this is one of the reasons Perry remains so beloved: because she knows how to combine spectacle with her truth.
