Dua Lipa sings with Green Day's Billie Joe in San Francisco – A unique live moment

Notification

In San Francisco, Dua Lipa invited Billie Joe Armstrong on stage to perform "Wake Me Up When September Ends" together, in a magical moment during the Radical Optimism Tour.

Η Dua Lipa gave her fans one of the most special moments of her “Radical Optimism Tour,” when Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong took the stage at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The two performed the moving “Wake Me Up When September Ends” together, giving everyone in attendance an unforgettable live experience. The energy, passion, and unexpected chemistry between the queen of pop and the punk-rock legend made the evening truly unique.

The San Francisco crowd adored the two artists from the moment they took the stage. Dua Lipa, with her signature smile and glow, shouted into the microphone “San Francisco, how are you today?” before welcoming Billie Joe Armstrong, saying that every night of her tour she wants to dedicate a song to a local artist. “And today,” she added, “I couldn’t think of anyone better than Billie Joe and Green Day!”

The choice of song was not accidental. “Wake Me Up When September Ends” is one of Green Day’s most emotional songs, written by Armstrong for his father, and remains a timeless symbol of nostalgia and loss to this day. Dua Lipa’s performance gave the song a new dimension, with her melodic voice blending harmoniously with the rock aesthetic of the song, creating a setting full of emotion.

It was Dua Lipa's second consecutive appearance at the Chase Center, as the previous night she had impressed the audience with another tribute, this time to Janis Joplin, performing "Piece of My Heart". In this way, the singer proves that she knows how to "read" the audience of each city, choosing songs with special meaning for the place and its musical history. Each stop of her tour has its own special moment, which makes her concerts reminiscent of musical tributes full of emotion and chills.

The practice of “surprise songs” has become a hallmark of her concerts. In each city, Dua Lipa chooses a different song from a local or legendary artist, sometimes inviting them on stage as well. This authentic approach has made her tour a social media phenomenon, as fans eagerly await her next unexpected collaboration.

A few days ago, during her appearance in Los Angeles, Dua Lipa had sung the classic "Don't Speak" by No Doubt with Gwen Stefani. She had declared in front of the audience: "I wanted to sing with one of my personal heroes. A woman who inspired me since I was a child and who I love for her strength, voice and style". Their collaboration had caused emotion, with Dua later praising Gwen Stefani in an interview, saying: "I have admired her for as long as I can remember. She is a woman who made me love music and creativity more."

The duet with Billie Joe Armstrong is another moment that shows that Dua Lipa is not limited to mainstream pop. On the contrary, she explores the roots of music, tries new styles and is not afraid to connect with different genres. The result was a magical marriage of Green Day's alternative sound with Dua's pure pop aesthetic, in a performance that combined dynamism and sensitivity.

The San Francisco crowd experienced a night reminiscent of the era of big rock concerts, but with Lipa's pop freshness. The song ended with hugs, smiles and a genuine emotion that is rarely found in such large productions. The two left the stage in awe, with the audience still singing the last verses.

Dua Lipa continues her "Radical Optimism Tour," which is coming to an end in North America with two more shows in Seattle. She will then travel to South America and Mexico, where she is expected to continue her musical journey with the same intensity and enthusiasm.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer revealed that she has returned to the studio and is working with Mark Ronson again. “I love working with Mark,” she said. “He’s incredibly inspiring and we have such great chemistry. I feel like every time we write together, something really special comes out.” Although she didn’t want to reveal more about her next musical step, she hinted that she is preparing a new artistic era.

Her fans are eager to see how her sound will evolve, but for now, they are enjoying her live performances that exceed all expectations. Dua Lipa proves once again that she is an artist who loves music across its spectrum – from pop to rock – and knows how to create memorable moments.
