Cardi B: “I'm sorry I asked you to buy the album, life has become very expensive”

Notification

Cardi B tells fans she regrets asking them to buy her new album amid economic turmoil. "I don't know how people are doing," she says

Η Cardi B did what few stars dare: she went live on Instagram and apologized to her fans for asking them to buy her new album “Am I the Drama?” during these difficult economic times. With her signature candor, the Bronx rapper spoke openly about how unaffordable rents have become in New York City, confessing that even she finds it hard to believe how much prices have skyrocketed.

The story began when Cardi B tried to help a friend find an apartment in New York. As she revealed, she thought that in the Bronx — the neighborhood where she grew up — rents would be lower. However, when she went on a well-known real estate platform to search, she realized that the situation had gotten out of hand. “Why, guys, I went on StreetEasy to look for apartments in the Bronx and even there the rents are outrageous? How can the cheapest place have become so expensive?” she said, clearly irritated.

Cardi B is known for her spontaneity and connection with her fans. This time, however, her message had none of the glitz and exaggeration that accompanies her interviews and videos. It was a human outburst, a complaint that any New Yorker could express. In a voice filled with frustration, she said: “I don’t know how people are coping. Honestly, I apologize for asking you to buy my album at a time when rent is so high and the economy is so crazy. I’m really sorry.”

Cardi B, who has built her career on honesty and street cred, is never one to shy away from speaking her mind. But this time, she touched on an issue that goes beyond music: the rising cost of living and the difficulty of making ends meet even with a steady job.

"What drives me crazy," he added, "is that there are so many people who work full-time, and yet they can't make ends meet. They don't get any help from the state, because they are considered 'borderline okay.' There are students, single people, workers who do everything they can, and yet they don't have any support."

The rapper didn't stop there. As she often does, she mixed the personal with the political, taking aim at the US government. "I hate the fact that if you say something about how hard it is to live right now, the government just says 'deal with it.' That's really what I can't stand." Her statements, while full of tension and anger, reflect the mood of a generation that has seen prices rise everywhere — from rent to food — while wages remain the same.

This isn't the first time Cardi B has commented on social issues. She's spoken out about inequality, poverty, and even the racism she experienced growing up. What makes her stand out, though, is her directness. She doesn't need complex statements or empty phrases; she prefers to say what's on her mind, just like she says it to her friends. And that authenticity is exactly what makes her so beloved by the public.

During the same live, she also revealed that she was considering uploading a video on Instagram for her diss track “Pretty & Petty” directed at rapper BIA, but ultimately decided against it. “I didn’t want to come across as a bully,” she said honestly. This statement was enough to once again spark discussion about how maturely she now manages her public image, in contrast to the early years of her career, when her confrontations with other artists had gone viral.

Cardi B knows the power of social media all too well. She knows that her every live can become news in a matter of minutes, and her every line can be reproduced on dozens of sites. But this time, the news wasn't some scandal or viral video, but a genuine moment of human sensitivity. A star who apologizes because she feels she asked "too much" of her fans.

The audience reacted with enthusiasm and emotion. Thousands of users commented on her live saying that “finally someone famous understands what we’re going through.” For many, Cardi B became a voice of an era where everyday life is becoming increasingly expensive, while people feel like they’re struggling alone.

Her message showed that, behind the glamour and millions of followers, there is a woman who remembers where she started. The Bronx may have changed, rents may have skyrocketed, but Cardi B remains true to the mindset that made her a star: telling the truth, whatever it is.

And if this live proved anything, it's that Cardi B doesn't always have to be provocative to get attention. Sometimes, saying "sorry" is the most powerful way to show that even the most glamorous people can truly care.
