Zayn Malik has announced the postponement of the American leg of his first solo tour, "Stairway To The Sky", following the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.
News of the postponement was shared via a social media post by Zayn on Saturday, October 19.
The tour, which was scheduled to begin on October 23 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco and conclude on November 3 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, has finally been moved to January.
Zayn explained that this decision was made due to the "shocking loss" of Liam Payne.
"Due to the shocking loss we experienced this week, I have decided to postpone the US leg of my 'Stairway To The Sky' tour," Zayn wrote.
"The new dates will be announced in the coming days, and your tickets will be valid for them. Thank you all for your understanding," he added.
The Stairway To The Sky tour is Zayn's first solo tour since leaving One Direction. The schedule includes shows in cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., to promote his new album, Room Under The Stairs.
The UK concerts, scheduled for late November to early December, are not affected by the postponement of the American leg.
Liam Payne died at the age of 31 on Wednesday, October 16, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Zayn, along with the rest of One Direction, expressed their deep sadness over the loss of Payne through emotional posts.
In his own tribute, Zayn posted a photo on Instagram from their teenage years, where the two of them are seen sleeping together, accompanying it with an emotional message.
"I think about how many conversations we missed. I never thanked you for your support during some of my most difficult times," he wrote.
"When I was feeling homesick at 17, you were always there with a smile, showing me that I had a true friend," he recalled.
Additionally, Zayn participated in One Direction's joint message, where the band members expressed their deep sadness over the loss of Payne.
The loss of Liam Payne is a tragic event for the music industry and One Direction fans, and the postponement of Zayn's tour reflects his respect and need to grieve.
