“No Place Like Home” is a tender moment for Elphaba (Erivo), who reminisces about her past in Shiz, shortly before her escape from Oz. With her voice combining power and sensitivity, she sings the poignant line: "Why do I love this place that's never loved me?" — a line that many fans already consider a classic. Erivo's interpretation evokes the magic of Broadway, while maintaining the drama and inner tension that characterized the original musical.
The second song, “Girl in the Bubble,” belongs to Ariana Grande’s Glinda, who, amidst her luxury and fame, begins to realize the burden of isolation. “Isn’t it high time for her bubble to pop?” she sings wistfully, in a scene that combines cinematic brilliance with psychological depth. Grande, with her distinctive voice and theatrical approach, gives a new, more mature dimension to Glinda — far from the stereotypes of the cheerful witch.
Stephen Schwartz, creator of the original score Wicked, explained that the two new songs were written exclusively for the film. “The narrative demanded it, so they were created,” said the composer, emphasizing that the goal was to give greater emotional depth to the two heroines. Together with director Jon M. Chu, they sought to maintain the spirit of Broadway, but expand it into a more cinematic narrative.
