Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood are back in the studio, rekindling memories of Fleetwood Mac's golden era. The band's longtime guitarist is teaming up with his former bandmate again, marking a musical reunion that has their fans excited.
An Unexpected Meeting in the Studio
News of this long-awaited reunion was leaked by Swedish producer Carl Falk, who posted a photo from the studio where Fleetwood is working on a new solo album. According to Falk, the album also features Adam Granduciel from The War on Drugs.
“It was an almost surreal moment to sit down with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood, playing the album we’re working on,” Falk wrote. “Lindsey’s joy for Mick was genuine, and his willingness to play guitar and sing was touching. I can’t wait to see this project come to fruition.”
A Historical Journey
Fleetwood, a founding member of Fleetwood Mac along with guitarist Peter Green and bassist John McVie, has been an integral member of the band since its inception. Buckingham joined the band in 1974 along with Stevie Nicks, creating the band's most iconic lineup, which also included Christine McVie.
Although Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in 1987, he returned in 1997 for the band's classic lineup reunion. He remained until 2018, when he announced that he would no longer be touring with the band. "It wasn't my decision, it wasn't my choice," he explained at the time. "There were internal conflicts that affected the balance of the band."
After his departure, Fleetwood Mac replaced Buckingham with Mike Campbell (formerly of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn of Crowded House. However, the band's run came to an end in 2022, following the death of Christine McVie.
A New Beginning?
Buckingham and Fleetwood's last musical collaboration was in 2017 on the album Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie, which featured all of Fleetwood Mac except Stevie Nicks. Their reunion this year marks their first joint work since then, and raises questions about the future: is this just a friendly engagement or the beginning of a more extensive collaboration?
While no official details have been released about Fleetwood's new album, the fact that the two musicians are back in the studio has already excited fans of the band. It remains to be seen whether this unexpected reunion will usher in a new musical era for the legendary musicians.
