Selena Gomez has been named the top Woman of the Year at this year’s Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards, Billboard and Telemundo have announced. The third annual ceremony will air live on April 24 at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively on Telemundo.
A Career with Multidimensional Influence
The award is given to female artists who stand out for their artistic success, leadership presence and influence on culture and society. After Shakira and Karol G, it was Selena Gomez's turn to shine on this special evening.
Selena has made a strong mark on the Billboard charts: 42 appearances on the Hot 100, including the No. 1 single “Lose You to Love Me.” In Latin, “Taki Taki” featuring DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B held the No. 1 spot for 13 weeks, followed by hits like “Baila Conmigo” featuring Rauw Alejandro.
From “Revelación” to History
In 2021, the Texas-born artist with Mexican roots released her first Spanish-language EP Revelation, which made history as the first album by a female artist to top the Top Latin Albums chart since Eldorado by Shakira. This project also earned her a Grammy nomination in the category of best Latin pop album.
Most recently, “Ojos Tristes” featuring Benny Blanco and The Marías entered the Top 5 of Hot Latin Songs, continuing her successful run in the genre.
More from Music
Beyond music, Selena is an actress, producer, businesswoman, and a vocal advocate for mental health and social rights. She was also named Billboard Women in Music's 2017 "Woman of the Year."
She completes an impressive list of awardees this year: Anitta (Vanguard Award), Belinda (Evolution Award), Celia Cruz (Legend Award), Chiquis (Impact Award), Ha*Ash (Unbreakable Award), Natti Natasha (Unstoppable Artist) and Olga Tañón (Lifetime Achievement Award).
The ceremony will be broadcast live on Telemundo, Universo, Peacock and the Telemundo app, as well as internationally on Telemundo Internacional.
