Playboi Carti strikes again with a surprise for his fans, releasing the deluxe edition of his much-talked-about third album Music on Tuesday (March 25), via AWGE and Interscope Records.
New Tracks and Unexpected Collaborations
The 27-year-old Atlanta rapper (real name Jordan Terrell Carter) adds four new tracks to his Music – Sorry 4 Da Wait: “Different Day”, "2024", “Backr00ms” (with Travis Scott) and “FOMDJ”. The most observant fans had already heard some of these additions: “2024” and “Backr00ms” were released exclusively on Carti’s YouTube in December 2023 and January 2024 respectively, while “Different Day” had appeared on the Instagram account @opium_00pium in December 2023. “FOMDJ” debuted last summer at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash and reappeared at ComplexCon in November.
To accompany the release of the deluxe edition, Carti gave fans another audiovisual experience, launching the official visualizer for “FOMDJ” on YouTube.
His Dominion Music on the Charts
The Music, originally released on March 14, made an explosive debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (dated March 29), gathering 298.000 album equivalent unitsThe album's success makes it the biggest hip-hop release of the year so far and it had the strongest streaming week for any album in the last year – after The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift.
Even more impressive is the fact that Carti became the first rapper (and only the third artist in history) to achieve the feat. over 30 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single week. All 30 pieces of Music entered the charts, with the “Evil J0rdan” and “Rather Lie” (in collaboration with The Weeknd) to conquer the No. 2 and No. 4 respectively. At the same time, his collaboration with The Weeknd on Timeless from the pop superstar's latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, was found in No. 3 before giving way to No. 23.
With the Music – Sorry 4 Da Wait, Playboi Carti continues to prove himself to be one of the most innovative and unpredictable figures in the modern hip-hop scene. The question now is: what else is in store for us?
