Madonna: The unreleased demo “Right On Time” and the return to the '90s

Notification

Madonna returns with the unreleased demo “Right On Time,” a song that harks back to the ’90s and Bedtime Stories era. The Queen of Pop reinvents her musical legacy with rare material and new energy.

Η Madonna never ceases to amaze us — and this time, she does so by taking us back to the golden era of the '90s. The "Queen of Pop" has released the previously unreleased demo "Right On Time," a song written around the time of the legendary album “Bedtime Stories” (1994), giving fans another piece of her past that until now remained locked away in her studio archives. Warner Records.

The new demo is included on Madonna's upcoming EP, titled “Bedtime Stories – The Untold Chapter”, a collection of unreleased recordings, alternative versions and rare demos that come to illuminate the creative period of one of the most pivotal albums of her career. On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of its release “Bedtime Stories”, Madonna shows that she still has the art of turning the past into the present — and making nostalgia seem modern.

The “Bedtime Stories” was one of the most daring and subversive steps in Madonna's career. After the provocative "Erotica" After 1992's "The One" which had caused a storm of reactions due to its sensual style, the artist decided to turn towards more R&B and trip-hop directions. With collaborations such as Dallas Austin, Babyface and Nellee Hooper, the album acquired a more "atmospheric" aesthetic, full of texture, rhythm and emotion.

The result? A different Madonna: more mature, more introverted, but always with her irresistible glow. From the "Secret" until “Take A Bow” (her first No.1 in the US for that decade), the “Bedtime Stories” It is considered today a landmark album that combined sensuality, soul and electronic elegance.

The “Right On Time” was created during that period, in collaboration with Dallas Austin, one of the most influential R&B producers of the '90s. Although the track never made it onto the album's final tracklist, the song's demo sounds surprisingly "complete" today. It retains that signature mid-'90s aesthetic — with a groovy swingbeat rhythm, smooth vocals, and that silky production that made that era so unique.

Madonna, then at the peak of her creativity, was exploring new sonic paths, mixing soul, pop and electronica in a way that only she could do. “Right On Time” perfectly reflects this experimental mood: it is playful yet melodic, with a vintage rhythm reminiscent of the MTV and CD singles era.

The demo's release coincides with the announcement of the 30th Anniversary edition of "Bedtime Stories" on collector's vinyl, something fans have been waiting for for years. The upcoming EP “The Untold Chapter” will include a total of eight tracks – including alternative versions of “Human Nature” and “Survival”, along with two completely new mixes curated by Stuart Price, Madonna's close collaborator since the “Confessions on a Dance Floor”.

Madonna seems to be experiencing a second creative youth. After the successful Celebration Tour, where she recreated the most iconic moments of her career, she returns with a fresh look at her past, retrieving pieces that had been “forgotten” in the studio drawers. It’s like rewriting her story — this time with the experience of a woman who has seen, felt and survived it all.

According to his reports Billboard, Madonna wants to breathe life back into songs that were never heard, thus creating a “second narrative” around her most creative decades. The “Right On Time” It is perhaps the beginning of this new era, a return that does not look back with nostalgia, but with self-awareness and artistic awareness.

And of course, her audience is reacting as only Madonna's fanbase knows how: with excitement, theories, and countless comments on social media. "This could easily have been a '95 hit," one fan wrote on X (Twitter). "There's no one else who redefines the sound of her career so consistently."

The “Right On Time” is available on all streaming platforms from October 9, 2025 and has already caused a wave of nostalgia. Madonna's voice sounds familiar yet "fresh" — as if not a day has passed since the world was rocking to Bedtime Story or “Take A Bow”.

But beyond its musical value, the song also acts as a bridge. It reminds us why Madonna is not just a singer, but a symbol of culture, self-determination and artistic freedom. Each of her reappearances is also a new lesson in how to remain timeless, without fearing change.

The “queen of pop” proves once again that art has no age, and music — like the “Right On Time” — always comes at the right time.
