The Jonas Brothers are celebrating two decades of their career with big announcements, concerts and memories that have been etched deep into their musical journey. Joe, Nick and Kevin spoke to Billboard about their favorite moments, challenges and plans, while going behind the scenes at the first JONASCON, a one-of-a-kind event dedicated to their fans.
A Return to the Roots
JONASCON took place at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, a place of special significance to the band, as it was where they first performed before they even became famous. The Jonas Brothers spent the entire day at the mall, meeting fans and performing new and old hits. “It feels like a full circle. Twenty years of work, moments of joy and difficult decisions have brought us here today,” said Nick.
The event included concerts, themed activities such as GI Jonas laser tag and Jonas Pizza, and guest appearances by surprise acts such as The All-American Rejects and Big Time Rush. Also, members of the cast of Camp Rock participated in a nostalgic discussion about the time when the Jonas Brothers became Disney icons.
New Music and Big Announcements
During their final performance, the Jonas Brothers shared exciting news with their fans:
- Their next studio album Greetings From Your Hometown will be released on August 8.
- Joe Jonas will present his long-awaited solo album, Music For People Who Believe in Love, on May 23.
- Their movie is coming to Disney+, A Very Jonas Christmas, later in the year.
- On June 13th, the London Live, a new live album.
- The band collaborates with ESPN for the song I Can't Lose, which will accompany the Sunday Night Baseball.
Memories from 20 Years of Career
When asked about their favorite moments, Joe recalled their first concerts in shopping malls: “We would wake up at 4 in the morning for soundcheck and mall walkers would yell at us to turn the music down!” Kevin was moved to see the Jonas Brothers museum, where his first Takamine guitar is kept, while Nick called JONASCON one of their most special experiences.
Speaking about the beginning of their career, Nick revealed: “When we started, we didn’t know exactly what we were doing… and we still don’t! But we always had people around us who believed in us and pushed us to keep going.”
Their Relationship with Fans
The Jonas Brothers grew up with the rise of social media, which helped them connect directly with their audience. Kevin mentioned that YouTube was their first means of communication, while Joe recalled their first videotaped pranks, inspired by Jackass“We didn’t like to promote ourselves in the typical way, so we just did stupid ideas and people loved it. We still do it!”
There Will Be Bounce Part 2;
One of the most talked about songs by the Jonas Brothers, the Bounce, was written during a break during the filming of Camp rock 2 and was recorded roughly on GarageBand. Nick revealed that he received one of his strangest payments for the song: “One of my funniest paychecks was for Bounce, just 10 dollars!” When asked if they plan to do a Bounce Part 2, Joe replied: “There is time… who knows what will happen in the next 20 years?”
The New Tour and the MetLife Stadium Dream
The Jonas Brothers also announced their world tour JONAS20: LIVING THE DREAM, which kicks off at MetLife Stadium in their hometown of New Jersey. “It’s incredible to be kicking off at MetLife. We’re Jersey kids, we grew up watching games from the cheaper seats, and now we have our own headline show here!” said Joe.
As for whether the tour will expand internationally? “Definitely! We want to celebrate these 20 years with as many fans around the world as possible.”
With so many plans on the horizon, one thing is for sure: the Jonas Brothers aren't just looking to the past, but are preparing for even more music, surprises, and excitement for the future.
