His first statement after taking office is a deeply personal confession
Ο SUGA of BTS has finally turned the page. On Saturday, June 21, the beloved K-pop artist was officially discharged from his military service and with his first post on weverse, sent a touching message to the ARMYs who were patiently waiting for him.
“I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time – thank you”
"Hello everyone. I'm SUGA. It's been about two years. How are you? Today I was discharged and I'm saying goodbye to you after a long time. It's a day I've been waiting for for so long and I've been thinking about how to talk to you. First of all, thank you for waiting for me. I've missed you so much."
“It was the first time I really looked inside myself”
SUGA went on to say that this two-year hiatus allowed him to do something he had been wanting to do for a while: take a break from music and reflect on himself. "Before, I was always running forward, never looking back. This period was a chance to reflect and better understand who I am."
“Sorry to disappoint you”
SUGA didn't hesitate to refer to the 2024 incident, when he was arrested for driving under the influence on an electric scooter. "I'm sorry for disappointing you and worrying you. What hurt me the most was that I hurt the hearts of my fans."
BTS now complete – but no immediate comeback
All the BTS have now completed their military obligations, but – as the big hit– there is no official plan for a reunion yet. There were also no celebratory events for SUGA's demobilization, in order to avoid overcrowding and comply with safety measures.
“I will update you often – I love you”
SUGA closed his letter with these words:
"I love you. I will keep you updated as often as I can"
